Kilkenny Limestone occurs naturally in the environs of Kilkenny City in the East of Ireland. Often referred to as Kilkenny Marble, this limestone is of such high quality that when crafted correctly it can be polished to a high sheen finish like that of marble which reveals its inherent natural beauty. Geologists estimate that the formation of Kilkenny Limestone dates as far back as 370 million years ago. Kilkenny City is widely known as the ‘Marble City’ with local limestone showcased throughout, in the buildings, doorways, walls and pavements, and most famously in St. Canice’s Cathedral and in the Black Abbey.
